Rebecca Shivers Named Alacare Volunteer of the Year
Alexander City, AL— Rebecca Shivers has been named Volunteer of the Year by Alacare Home Health & Hospice. Shivers has been a volunteer with the organization for eighteen months and volunteered 150 hours of her time in 2006 alone.
“The Volunteer of the Year Award was created to recognize the Alacare Home Health & Hospice volunteer who truly goes to extraordinary lengths to brighten the lives of our patients,” said Gary Corbin, RN, Alacare’s Director of Patient Care Services. “All volunteers are exceptional, but Rebecca is someone who stands out even among a group of outstanding individuals.”
Some of her outstanding services include participating in “Tuck-in Calls” to patients on Thursday evenings to determine their needs prior to the weekend, making holiday crafts for patients and helping to deliver them, playing an important part in the Alacare Alexander City Branch’s memorial service and helping maintain the group’s memorial garden that honors hospice patients and their families.
Shivers was previously a volunteer in the Russell Medical Center’s Hospice program. “After that program closed, she was instrumental not only in keeping the volunteer group together, but encouraging them all to become Alacare volunteers,” Corbin added. “Thanks in large part to her efforts, the ‘Friends of Hospice’ group has been a shining light of volunteerism in the Alexander City area.”
