Penny Shadinger Receives National Recognition as Top Sales Professional
Albertville, Alabama—National home health industry publication …home health line has named Penny Shadinger, RN, of Albertville the Home Health Star Liaison. The award is given to the top sales or marketing professional of the year. Shadinger works in sales at Alacare Home Health & Hospice.
Shadinger did not set out to work in sales. She first spent 28 years as a school nurse in the Albertville area. Ready to try something different and not yet ready to retire, Shadinger looked for a new way to apply her nursing background. Selling home health and hospice services seemed to be a perfect career change.
“Penny didn’t have any sales or marketing experience when she applied for this job,” says Christy McKone, Alacare’s Director of Sales. “We were so impressed with her attitude, her knowledge and her communication skills, though, that we decided to give her an opportunity. She took that opportunity and ran with it!”
Run with it she did. Shadinger was assigned a territory that had previously proved a sales challenge, but she was able to turn that around. In just one year, admissions in her territory increased 57%.
For winning the Home Health Star Liaison award, Shadinger will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the home care marketing conference, “Power Home Health Referrals 2006,” in Las Vegas February 22 -24. She will also be a featured speaker at this conference, sharing her tips for sales success.
“Because her approach is so genuine, Penny is well respected by her peers, the Alacare management, the community, and the physicians and other referral sources with whom she deals,” says McKone. “Other sales professionals at the conference will be able to learn a lot from her.”
