Sandra Davis Named Alacare Volunteer of the Year

Birmingham, AL— McCalla resident Sandra Davis has been named Volunteer of the Year by Alacare Home Health & Hospice. Davis has been a volunteer with the organization since 2003.

“The Volunteer of the Year Award was created to recognize the Alacare Home Health & Hospice volunteer who truly goes to extraordinary lengths to brighten the lives of our patients,” said Mary Rose Gray, RN, Alacare’s Hospice Administrator. “All volunteers are exceptional, but Sandra is someone who stands out even among a group of outstanding individuals.”

Davis began volunteering with Alacare’s hospice program because she saw the way hospice had helped members of her own family. She served one hospice patient and his family for more than two years, and in all that time she rarely missed a visit. She devoted more than 150 hours of her time and traveled more than 2500 miles in serving that patient. Nurses and other hospice staff considered her an important member of the hospice team. “The patient died a couple of months ago,” Gray added, “but Sandra still visits with his wife, providing bereavement care.”
