John Beard, JD, MBA, President of Alacare Home Health and Hospice, joined Dr. Sara Barger, Dean of UA’s Capstone College of Nursing, in signing formal agreements outlining the arrangements. The ceremony took place at Alacare’s Corporate Office in Birmingham. Also attending the event were Dr. Jeanette VanderMeer, assistant professor in the UA Capstone College of Nursing and coordinator of the RN Mobility tracks, Susan Brouillette, MPH, MBA, Alacare’s CEO, and Mark Cook, RN, MBA, Alacare’s Chief COO/CCO. “We are thrilled by this arrangement with Alacare,” Dr. Barger said. “Of our fourteen partners, Alacare is only the second healthcare organization and the first to have multiple branches throughout the state. We see this as a tremendous opportunity to offer registered nurses throughout Alabama the chance to increase their educational level.” Using the Internet, nurses can complete the nursing courses in one year, without facing the restrictions of being in class at a specific time on a particular day. Instead, RN students have the flexibility of choosing the best time to attend class online. Required clinical activities are designed on an individual basis and efforts are made to arrange times and locations convenient to students. “Alacare Home Health & Hospice is founded on excellence in nursing care,” added John Beard, “so we are excited to expand our relationship with the Capstone School of Nursing in this way. Not only is it a way for us to give back to the school, it will also help promote a broader understanding of community-based services throughout the state.” About Alacare Alacare Home Health & Hospice is Alabama's oldest and largest privately owned, Medicare-certified home health agency.
